We don't know the exact reason for this but my educated guess is the decreased passenger volume that makes low fare carriers to lower their prices to keep their planes full. What has lead to the decreased volumes is most likely the terrorist fears that have also decreased the hotel prices in Paris this summer. The chances that you find cheap flights from your home city to Paris and back are now higher than ever and you also have good chances to find surprisingly cheap hotels in Paris.

Low fair airline news summary - Trends in the low cost carrier industry

Many things have happened in the low cost airline business and I think it's time for good summary about some major trends and changes in the industry.

Long distance low cost flights - Norwegian is in the business and Ryanair planning it
Cheap Airlines have traditionally their major cost advantage in short routes where optimizing the capasity and personnel costs are more significant. In the long distance flights there hasn't been similar cost advanteges because fuel costs play important role and Ryanair and Wizzair have very limited possibilities to get cheaper fuel than any other airline company. However new less fuel consuming airplanes have made this long distance market more interesting for low cost carriers and Norwegian Air Shuttle have already started their long distance flights. They are using Boeing 787 Dreamliner for their continental flights. Norwegian flies from Nordic capitals (Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen) to New York, Florida, Los Angeles and Bangkok. In addition to this they have some continental routes to the US from London Gatwick Airport. Ryanair has published some mixed views about their possible long distance flights but they are definitely seriously considering the opportunity.

If you look at the European map it's easy to understand why Copenhagen is so important airport between Northern and Central Europe. Ryanair opened 17 direct routes from Copenhagen and that made competition between Ryanair, Easyjet and Norwegian very intense in Denmark. If you look at the Skyscanner you can find more than 10 cities where you can now fly one way flight with less than 20€ from Copenhagen. If Wizzair opens flights to Copenhagen it's possible that Copenhagen becomes similar low fares hub as Brussels Charleroi, Milan Bergamo and London airports. Cabin baggage fees have not become popular - Ryanair is not following Wizzair example
Wizzair launched some times ago policy of two sizes hand luggage. Small Cabin Bag, that fits below the seat in front of you (Free cabin bag) and Large Cabin bag that is approximately same size as normal cabin baggage on other airlines (Cabin baggage fee). I assumed that if this seems to work Ryanair would follow the example but they haven't so I assume that they have come to a conclusion that it's not generating them more profits than current fees.

Cheap flights to St Helier Jersey Channel Islands

Jersey island and it's capital St Helier are very interesting holiday destinations for many tourists. Jersey airport is located on the other side of this Channel Island than it's capital St Helier. However the Island is not very big and distance is not more than 10km. Taxi from the Jersey airport to St Helier costs 12-20 GBP depending on time and tariff used.

The most frequent flights are between London and Jersey. EasyJet has frequent flights between Jersey and London Southend. British Airways and Flybe operate between Jersey and London Gatwick. There are also cheap flights between Jersey and Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester, Bristol and East Midlands. Aurigny is Channel Islands own airline that also operates between Jersey Guernsey and the mainland.

EasyJet cheap flights to Newcastle

Newcastle is a city in North East England. Newcastle is situated on north bank of River Tyne. Newcastle International Airport is located 9,3 km (5,8 mi) north-west of the city centre. Local authorities own 51% of the airport and remainin 49% is owned surprisingly by Copenhagen Airport.

London Southend Airport is located in Essex in the district of Roxford. In the 1960's London Southend Airport was the third busiest airport in the UK. After that London Stansted Airport took much of the traffic and London Southend Airport lost many passangers. A new owner bought London Southend Airport 2008 and has invested in modernization of London Southend Airport. EasyJet started their flights from/to London Southend Airport in April 2012. Currently they fly to London Southend Airport from: Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Geneva, Ibiza, Jersey, Majorca, Malaga and Venice. It's possible that EasyJet will later open new routes to London Southend Airport.

London Luton Airport (previously called Luton International Airport) lies 56,5 km (35 mi) north from Central London. Luton Airport served as military airport in World War II. After the war airport returned to the local council. London Luton airport has been basis for charter flights and later low fares airlines have started to use London Luton Airport. For example Hungarian Wizzair flies many flights to London Luton. EasyJet also has rather long list of flight connections from London Luton.

As you can see EasyJet list of connections from/to London Gatwick is impressive. London Gatwick is without doubt the most important hub for EasyJet. Unfortunately my own home city Helsinki disappeared from the list more than a year ago. EasyJet doesn't fly their cheap flights to Finland Helsinki Airport anymore.
