SAS 70 years campaign - Cheap longhaul flights from Copenhagen and Stockholm - Only this weekend

Nordic airline SAS is celebrating their 70 years in business by selling selected flights with historical prices. There are some cheap flights in Europe but the biggest discounts are in longhaul flights. There are amazingly cheap flights from Copenhagen and Stockholm to New York, Chicago, Miami, Peking and Tokyo.

Usually it's rather easy to find cheap flights from many cities to either Copenhagen and Stockholm so this campaign prices can be used by other Europeans as well. I just checked some prices from Copenhagen to Peking and found prices with 250€/two way and this price wasn't just one day. There were several day options available for this bargain price.

Cheap flights to Paris - Terrorist fears decrease Paris flights and hotels

Terrorist news from Paris are reflected in number of tourists visiting Paris this winter season. At the moment it seems that there is flight and hotel capacity available at bargain prices. At the moment you can book really cheap flights from several European cities to Paris for next winter season 2015/2016. Here are some examples of the ticket prices from selected European cities:
  • Spain Zaragoza - Paris cheap flights starting from 15€, Ryanair
  • Barcelona - Paris cheap flights starting from 20€ Ryanair
  • Debrecen (Hungary) - Paris cheap flights starting from 17€, Wizzair
  • Poland: Wizzair flies from almost every city of Poland to Paris for less than 20€. There are cheap tickets from Katowice, Gdansk, Krakow, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw.
  • Milan Bargamo - Paris cheap flights are 19-20€ from both Wizzair and Ryanair

If you believe that the lightning never strikes the same place twice and are not afraid of new terrorist attacks in Paris, you have excellent chances finding exceptionally cheap flights to Paris this winter season. I'm not saying that everyone should rush to Paris but if you are willing to accept the risk you can have nice Holiday in the city that is normally overcrowded by tourists. I haven't decided whether I will take to opportunity to fly cheap flights to Paris but I'm seriously thinking about it. Some years ago just after some turbulence in Egypt I had excellen hotel by the Red Sea. It was half empty five star hotel at hostel price and almost private pools for us.

Can low fares airlines compete in long distance flights?

Can low fares airlines compete in long distance flights? In the history low fares airlines have been succesful in short and medium term flights. If you take a look at routes from/to popular european tourist cities you can find many low fares airlines competing and many of them are still making profit but there is very limited supply of low fares long distance flights. The main reason is that long distance airlines get most cost savings in fast and efficient use of airplanes and personnel. In short and medium term flights it really makes difference wheather the plane and crew are at the airport 30 or 50 minutes between two 1 hour flights. When we are talking about flights over 8 hours this difference becomes less important and cost advantage is less important.

Norwegian low fares airline Norwegian Air Shuttle AS believes that they can get cost advantage using new Boeing 787 Dreamliners that need less fuel than older planes. Unfortunately the story of Boeing 787 Dreamliner is full of technical challenges and it's not yet certain that Norwegians can start their long distance cheap flights in May 2013 as they have planned. Norwegians seem to believe that Boeing can solve battery problems of Dreamliner and they are selling their Stockholm-New York, Oslo-New York, Stockholm-Bangkok and Oslo-Bangkok flights at norwegian.com. It's interesting to see if also long distance flights become playground of carries like Ryanair and EasyJet. When can we see first London Stansted-US flights with GBP 99/one way.

Swedavia website under pressure - Stockholm Arlanda and Bromma airports closed this morning - Skavsta airport open

Swedish airport company Swedavia website isn't working correctly under heavy pressure caused by traffic problems at Stockholm Arlanda and Bromma airports. Currently Swedavia.se is showing only a short notice: "There is limited air traffic to and from Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Bromma Stockholm Airport. We are currently experiencing heavy traffic on our website and you are placed in queue. We apologise for the inconvenience and are working hard so that you will have normal access to the website again soon."

At the moment Stockholm Arlanda Airport is closed for all traffic and Stockholm Bromma Airport traffic is very limited due to the heavy snowing in Stockholm area. Stockholm Skavsta airport that Ryanair and Wizzair use is open but there seems to be many delays.

Norwegian Air Shuttle big Autumn Sales start Tue 21.8 - Cheap flights Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki and many other cities

Norwegian Air Shuttle is a low fares airline with strong market position in Scandinavia. In Central Europe they market themselves as gateway to Scandinavia. Norwegian flies from many european metropoles to scandinavian capitals. They have flights from Paris, Rome, Barcelona, London and many other city to scandinavian capitals Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki.

Norwegian Air Shuttle is definetely a low fares airline but not as much oriented on cost savings as for example Ryanair. Just like EasyJet Norwegian Air Shuttle usually uses normal airports and avoids more distant airports that Ryanair uses (Milan Bergamo, Brussels Charleroi, London Luton/Stansted, Barcelona Girona etc.).

Norwegian Air Shuttle will have a big Autumn Sales campaign starting Tuesday August 21st. Sales prices are still a secret but it's very likely that there will be cheap flights between Scandinavian capitals and big european cities. If you are looking for cheap flights to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki or Oslo, it's worth visiting website of Norwegian Air Shuttle next week.

EasyJet cheap flights to Sweden

Unfortunately EasyJet doesn't offer many flights north from Copenhagen. Previously EasyJet flew to Finland and offered Helsinki-Paris and Helsinki-London flights but currently they fly only to capital of Sweden Stockholm. Only EasyJet cheap flight to Stockholm is at the moment from Geneva.

Nordic countries have been rather difficult market for big european low fares airlines such as EasyJet and Ryanair. Long distances and small population perhaps make these nordic countries unattractive markets and local competitor Norwegian Air Shuttle has strong market position.
